Missionary Madness?

Following my last post, a comment was made to remind me of a missionary friend. An American Chinese, he befriended some Norwegian co-workers. He became such good friends that they invited him to go to their home.

There, he discovered their sauna. And the lakes that back the saunas.

If you don't know about saunas, they are basically steam rooms. Really hot. The heat is from the rocks in the special room. Splash water on them and the steam rises. You sit there until you can't take it any more. Then you dash out.

In this part of Europe, when they dash out of the sauna, they head for the fjord and lakes that back the saunas. There, in their birthday suits, they hop into the icy waters to cool down.... only to go back again into the saunas. Repeatedly done, one gets into a very relaxed state.

Which is what our friend did. Despite being "Asian" he went ahead with it. That shows a typical high "D" - which he is!

Great post, I'm glad you and your friend got to enjoy a true Scandinavian style sauna.

Saunas have great benefits, both for physical well being and relaxation. They've been a part of many cultures around the world for a very long time (and not just Scandinavian cultures, the Native Americans had a version of a sauna as well).

Agree... though some would say a steam bath is better and than saunas are too dry... hmmm

Agreed as well. :) Lucky for them the benefits of a steam room are much the same as the benefits of a sauna.

We actually just covered this in a blog post of our own...
